What Every Tech Trade Show Booth Needs

Creating genuine human connections through personalized interactions is the key to success at tech trade shows.

Tech trade shows are all about the new, next cool things.

But, at the end of the day, for any business, they’re about one key thing — creating human connection.

Creating Human Connection As The Business Magician

I recently had the opportunity to represent LTIMindtree at the SAP Sapphire trade show event in Orlando. My role as their trade show magician was to use magic to break the ice and draw prospects into engaging with the LTI Mindtree team at our booth. However, the real key was paying close attention to each individual I interacted with, quickly figuring out their unique personality style and tailoring my approach to make a genuine connection.

Throughout the event, both in the exhibit hall and at LTI Mindtree's hospitality suite, I had the opportunity to create memorable yet unobtrusive interactions with attendees, as you can see in these photos. By adapting my communication style and magic effects to resonate with each person's preferences, I aimed to facilitate authentic dialogues and foster relationship-building between them and the LTI Mindtree staff.

In a world where technology takes center stage, it was refreshing to spotlight the human side of doing business. The magic may have sparked the initial conversations, but it was the personalized attention and ensuing meaningful exchanges that mattered most.

Planning For Perceptions

One big secret of my success as the magician at this trade show? Fostering positive perceptions ahead of time. 

A few weeks before the in-person event, I filmed an invitation video that LTIMindtree shared on their social media. 

This video was a personal invitation to visit the booth and spend time with the team at their hospitality booth. The video ended with a call to action, encouraging viewers planning to attend the show to use the QR code on the screen to schedule their meeting ahead of time.

With trade-shows, you never know how your investment of time, staff, money and resources is going to turn out. Pre-scheduling meetings turned out to be a great way to gauge interest ahead of time. 

It was proven to be a great strategy during the hours I spent at the booth. People who had seen the video and scheduled their meeting would stop by the booth and ask for the person they had scheduled with. If that person was finishing up another meeting or had stepped away from the booth and was coming back, I stepped in to engage the visitor and create a positive waiting experience. 

The combination of advertising the performance to drive traffic, and engaging the visitors with exactly what we promised - magic and a meeting - proved to be a successful plan to drive business forward.
